Things I've made

Hello, ladies!  Christmas came and went! I've been seeing some Christmas-sewing action around the blogosphere and I have to say your makes put me to shame as I write this. I've only been doing "survival sewing": things that I really need, or my kids need. I've been sewing tracksuit pants, sweaters and things like that. Nothing post-worthy.
I´ve repeated patterns, as is the case with this dress. Vogue 8946. I´ve made it before AQUI/HERE, but it was all worn out so I chose a similar fabric (this one is also grey, with some green hues, not that you can notice it in the pictures)

También he estado tejiendo.

I've been knitting too: I found this yarn half price, only two "balls" (sorry, I'm still not familiar with knitting vocabulary) Not enough to make a jumper, so I decided to make a shawl/scarf/whatever. It is quite warm, actually!

And I finally bought one of those Ottobre magazines that are very popular amongst Spanish sewists. Well, I don't know... I find all the designs very wearable, I admit it, but the instructions put me off. Besides most of the models are designed to be sewn with a serger, and I refuse to buy one.

I needed something comfortable and nice for my classes and I decided to try number six which has all the seams sewn on the outside with a serger.

And that in the magazine looks like this:

My fabric had one side printed but the other side was entirely black, so I decided to sew the seams wrong side together and then open them and secure them with a zig-zag stitch.

Seam transition front-back went right!

Me encantan!
I can wear it with my new teacher-shoes. I'm in love with them, they are so comfortable and they look good with skirts!

More things: I've knitted a sweater for my photographer. It had to be black, because he usually dress in black, but I added a greyish-blue band that goes with his eyes.
Oh, and those pants I´m wearing are V8859 in a stretch fake leather fabric. They are comfortable and soft to touch.
I had some of that fabric left and with it and three meters of another fabric I made my Chirstmas dress...but that's another story.

Enjoy what's left of the holidays and see you soon!

7/11

Numbers, numbers...So 7th November happens to be my birthday, thanks in advance for your Bday wishes, I hope I can have a little celebration with the children and then rest..or maybe sew a little.

When I was planning this bomber jacket, for which I used the same pattern as in THE REVERSIBLE BOMBER JACKET, I wanted it to be really warm and sporty. I had this sweatshirt material and the black cuffs and I bought the softest, plushiest polar fleece.

Gracias, reina!

But there was something missing, like it was too big a span of grey on my back. The fist idea that crossed my mind was my B-day date, but of course, we all know a logo for that, don't we? So I called my friend Charo from the link above and she very kindly designed my very own. Yes, she is lovely like that!

The jacket has welt pockets and I designed a new collar for it, so that it was warmer. But I forgot to interface it and now it looks a bit collapsed.

Despite the flaws, I'm quite happy with the jacket; it's warm and comfy and great to wear with jeans.
I'm having a bit of a sewing-draught right now. I buy patterns, I buy fabric but I can't get arround starting anything. I hope I can sew up something for Christmas, but in the meanwhile you carry on for me, alright?
Thank you for your visit!

Insomnia Sweater

Hola! Yo otra vez.

Hello! Yes, I'm back, again. Sorry for missing all your nice Autumn/Spring proyects (depending on the hemisphere you live in) Life has kept me busy. What is it with September??? Crazy month! If it wasn't enough with children going back to school, I go back to school too, and with it return all the job uncertainties.
I needed something to keep my mind out of those, and machine sewing at 3 a.m. is not an option if you consider yourserf a civilised person. I turned to knitting.
So I told you back in August that I enroled in Craftsy's  My Fisrt Seamless Sweater

Además me relaja.

Was it easy? Well, I had never knitted with circular needles, but the directions are excellent and if you follow them, you get your sweater. That said, it is not a very glamorous one. Quite boxy actually, but I'm over the moon, truth to be told.
What is it that I don't like about knitting? I takes ages to finish a garment. So I realised it is a good idea to invest money in good quality yarn.
And what is it that I like? I'm always cold in winter. I NEED warm swaters! Besides it is a good thing that you can take your knitting to odd places, when you know you´ll be spending time with nothing to do ( eg. my children swimming practice)
So, I'm thinking about another course, the Artemisia sweater, for instance.

And as I had some leftover yarn I made a hat. I found this free pattern at Ravelry  Bankhead Pattern by Susie Gourlay

Now my heart is torn: Should I carry on learning the knitting business or should I stick to my machine?

While I make a decision, I leave you with a wonderful Autumn view of the Seine river.
And thank you for visiting my corner!

Stripped Burda Shorts

Burda Style06/11 111
Podeis ver las otras AQUI/HERE.

This is the 4th version of this pattern. You can have a look at the others AQUI/HERE. They are my favourite shorts: easy to make and easy to wear.

The photos were taken the same day as the previous post. I´d better not tell you where I got changed!

And now the Summer is almost over I'm getting ready: Due to my inexperience in knitting but my need of warm and cozy sweaters in Winter, I just enrolled in this Craftsy course.

Y vosotras?

And you? Are you getting your Winter patterns ready or do you inprovise?

Modified Running Shorts

When I saw this post from SEW COUNTRY CHIC I just felt the need to have my very own modified running shorts.

I already had the pattern AQUI/HERE, but there were no pockets. Besides I wanted ITALIAN slant pockets, just like the ones Pauline designed for her SORELL TROUSERS. I traced them more easily than I thought they would be and I used the construction method in the said pattern.

The main fabric has a bit of stretch and for the pockets and the bias strips I used leftover fabric from ESTE PROYECTO/THIS PROYECT

AQUI/HERE

This last one is for photographic purposes only.
Last year, during MMM14 Margo, from Creating in the Gap wrote a post that I liked  very much. Basic tips to photograph your creations.
One of her tips was "light some shine on your butt" and that´s exactly what we tried to do here. I love the effect on the hair, specially!

Lastly, I'd like to ask you this: how often do you modify your patterns?

Beach Wear

Sonia from the link above sent me this fabric a year ago...Thank you Sonia!

I traced the bikini bottom from a RTW I liked a lot. The top is from a Patrones magazine. It should have been smaller!

AQUI/HERE

Both parts are lined and to insert the elastic I used the method AQUI/HERE

And the photos were taken during a wonderful week spent with my parents and my friends. This is the beach "Genoveses" in el Cabo de Gata.
Very basic but veeery comfortable bikini!!

...And then I made some Pants

Because I had serious left over fabric. That's the thing about buying African wax, that you have to buy the whole thing, not just a couple of meters...I'm not complaining, just stating a fact.

Otro crimen.

And as I couldn't find a pants pattern that I liked, I took some old Primark pj's and ripped them appart (they were old, couldn't fight back, hah!) I wish I would have kept the pattern, but for some silly reason, maybe a seasonal cleaning madness, they landed in the dustbin.

I played with the selvage to get this effect in the pockets

And I realized there was no picture of me upside down this year...here it goes!

So, a nice colourful and comfortable pair of trousers.
Are you having a good Summer? I'm sure you are!
Lots of  love to everyone and keep on enjoying yourselves!

The African-Italian-French Connection

Buenaaas!

Hello! Here again with another pattern repetition, but I guess it is worth showing.

The pattern is the very famous Burda 101 02/2011 AQUI/HERE
This time more fitted to my figure.

The bodice is lined but not the skirt, as the fabric is quite stiff

I had this African print that had a border (I know there is a word for this, but I cannot find it right now) and used it withwise to make the skirt

So, where is the African-Italian-French connection?: African print, a dress like the ones a Maggiorata from the 50's would wear (I`m thinking of Gina Lollobrigida right now) happily donned to roam the streets of Paris!

La falda tambien sirve de paracaidas

The skirt doubles as parachute...

La espalda

The back

And this is me telling those Chanel models that their clothes might be more expensive, but mine is much nicer!! They couldn´t answer that! ;)

To my photographer: Merci de m'avoir aidé à faire mes devoirs.
